Quattro ultra differs from regular Quattro in that it primarily operates in front-wheel drive configuration. It can do this thanks to a dual clutch transmission that can disconnect the rear axle when AWD isn’t needed. In the event that more traction is needed suddenly, the rear wheels are brought up to speed by a prop shaft in a fraction of a second—so fast the driver won’t even know they lost traction.
